This piece is titled “4-Wheeler Rollover” by Okay Mountain (Carlos Rosales-Silva, Corkey Sinks, Josh Rios, Justin Goldwater, Ryan Hennessee, Nathan Green, Peat Duggins, Michael Sieben, Sterling Allen, Tim Brown) and was created in 2012. The sculpture is made out of an ATV, concrete, and paint. The sculpture is approximately 25 yards by 15 yards and is a crazy trail of tire tracks ending with the ATV flipped upside down. This piece is site specific because it was done right on the lawn. The sculpture is an actual object being a real ATV.
The color of the sculpture is browns and earthy tones. The texture is found in the tire tracks, it’s as if the artist poured the cement into the track marks and later rolled a tire through the concrete giving it the texture a tire would give. The shape of the tracks almost seems to be too neat where i feel it should have been more random. The piece is well balanced because the tire tracks are so specifically placed. The movement of the lines creates a very nice appealing flow.
This piece is amusing but also leaves you very curious of what the story behind it is. The mood of this sculpture seems to be very rebellious. You can interpret and create any kind of story you want to about it. The piece is very realistic they used a real object (ATV). The response evoked from the piece is somewhat concerning do to the tragic ending of the flipped ATV. The artists’ purpose of this piece was “deliberately crashing “low” thrill culture into the “high” space of fine art”
